THE BREAKDOWN: Parisian Producer MANSO̶U̶R̶’s Latest EP ‘DO YOU GET IT’

If you haven’t heard of MANSO̶U̶R̶ then his latest EP ‘DO YOU GET IT’ is one you swiftly need to tap in to. The 5 song, 10 minute project sees the producer take you through grime infused club bangers as well as relaxing yet futuristic subversive hip hop soundscapes. The Parisian native breaks down the stories behind the songs below – from features to feels and more.

KIRBY TALKS…

My name is Mansour, just another human being like you, and I thought it was essential to introduce myself. During the final stages of the creation of this project, like any producer who needs money, I was working a part-time job and made a crucial encounter that surprises me to this day. I became friends with my co-worker and asked him what he thought of me the first time he saw me (you can actually see him in the last commercial that we dropped). After that, everything is just history. When I listen to music, obviously the sound comes first but I think it’s also important to introduce ourselves and remind people who we are, little kids who decide to live their dreams.

FEED THE FIRE

He’ll probably laugh when he reads this, but Sam is actually one of the biggest accomplishments in my music. Knew him through HOP, and listened to his music since the beginning. I always said that I needed to work with the man. I met him through one of my super talented artist-friends Oscar #Worldpeace (shout out family). Sam heard my productions, and asked if he could hear more of them. I remember, I called in sick to work, and took a train to London. First session, first time meeting  and we made this track that is so timeless to us. Since then, we’ve added a lot to the hard drive, that may or may not be released.I remember that he said  “Let the artist you looked up to discover you naturally”. I liked that. Anyways, just know that a Manny + Sammy track will always bend the rules.

MY TYPE!

MY TYPE!” Is actually the last track I made for “DYGI”. I discovered BXKS when I started producing in London, which was last year. I’ve always known that I had tracks that would make her lose her mind, but we’ve never had the opportunity to meet. Met Odunsi through Len (shout out Sinclairs). Had one session together, played him about 10 productions (at least) but we weren’t just feeling it at that moment. I LIKE MOMENTS. But then I looked at an old file I made 2 years ago and played him  “MY TYPE!” (the production was called “Turbo”, don’t ask me why, that was the first thing that popped out of my head). He was gassed. I sent the track to BXKS, she recorded it and I handled the rest. Influenced by friends that are into clubbing music and ballroom culture, I wanted to make a track that sounded like that and it actually made me want to do more of that. I’m from Paris. One thing about us, we like clubbing.

CALABASAS (too legit)

Was introduced to LennyVanD’s music through “BRAND NEW BIH” and slid in his dm’s immediately and told him I wanted to work with him. I will forever be grateful for what he brought me musically. Man doesn’t care about a hit song, as long as you have a vision, that’s enough. This reinforces my belief that it’s really all about having fun. We had a session last winter in Paris and I just played him the first song that I wanted to play, he looked at me and said “this one” (Calabasas). I watch the Kardashians, so the name just made sense to me (don’t care).

WISH GRANTED/MESSAGE IN A BOTTLE

Rxlls raps super good, like SUPER GOOD. When I’m listening to him, I feel like I’m learning. Funny story – I met him through the Mini Kingz and asked him if I could send him stuff. 2 weeks later, I was in Amsterdam and he sent me 2 songs that were just pure gold (listened to these the entire weekend). Since then, I knew it was necessary to have him on my debut project. Sent him the right one (WISH GRANTED/MESSAGE IN A BOTTLE) and my guy just spoke his truth. One word – GORGEOUS.
