IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: TOP 5 MOMENTS OF TORA-I’S [@TORADIFRANCE] FIRST HEADLINE SHOW

Having previously opened for the likes of Snoh Aalegra and Omar Apollo, Tora-i’s headline show was overdue. Having recently released her EP, ‘& what else?’ back in May (which GUAP reviewed here), fans eagerly filled out the Institute of Contemporary Arts. Her band wore stylish, minimalistic fits in all white as they walked on stage while the backdrop lit up – various windows from different houses. Intriguing to say the least, fans soon began to cheer as she walked on stage in a stunning green and black dress.

Here are the top 5 moments from her headline show:

Her operatic whistle notes during ‘Pisonia Prologue’

The beat on this track has a sultry, dragging melody to it that the band texturised eloquently as Tora-i’s stunning vocals navigate the tune. However it’s her songbird-like vocalisations that steal the show, the whistle notes were unreal.

Pinky’s up for ‘Palace’

She encourages everyone to put their pinkies in the air, and getting everyone to promise to have fun and sing the words before the heavy drums come in swinging on ‘Palace’. She sways from side to side, full of fluidity as her mesmerising vocals connect with the crowd. She gets down and encourages the crowd to do the same during the bridge before her vocals soar through the mic.

Her cover of Rudimental’s “Sexy Sexy” ft. Natalie May

The crowd claps continuously as she dubs this song a UK classic. Her vocals feel like a summer breeze as she has fun with her take on the funky throwback, her vocals perfectly evoke that tantalising feeling of temptation.

The lively horns on ‘Call Your Name’

Free-spirited Tora-i dances as the horns play, intro-ing the fan favourite. The crowd are singing each lyric as she walks across the stage with the utmost confidence while her vocals remain strong. The lyricism on that song is both parts relatable and incredibly well-written, so no wonder the crowd are singing every word along with her.

‘Escape Room’ – The Grand Finale

The kaleidoscopic cymbals count her in as the triumphant melody starts to play. Her strikingly empowering voice took centre stage for a final time as fans watched adoringly, in complete awe while singing along. Tora-i takes her vocals up several octaves with ease, washing a wave of comfort over the audience.
