IMullar Sound System [@theimullar] Has its One-Year Anniversary Celebration

It’s already been a year since the event’s birth that has given way to a new crop of DJs and created a safe space for alternative music lovers. Since the first IMullar sound system event, their goal of “connecting people through sound” has been clear. It has helped them grow a niche community for alternative music lovers who rarely hear the sounds they want at other events around Accra. Known for their music policy, “strictly House, Techno, Electronic, Hip-Hop, Amapiano, and 5% Afrobeats,” they cater to the community that resonates with this.

After 6 IMullar Sound System events over a year, it was time for its anniversary event. To welcome more new people to the growing community, the anniversary was hosted at the Freedom Skatepark, now a safe place for Accra’s creative community.

The event started with a Vibrate Masterclass session moderated by the sensational Ria Boss with seasoned music industry professionals Jade Busola, Teemo, and Kwaps, on the topic of music distribution. Followed right after was a deconstruction session led by none other than award-winning record producer and DJ Juls.

Next on the event schedule was a DJ open day session where beginners interested in disc jockeying got to familiarize themselves with the DJ control systems. The festivities began right after, and the DJs who performed showed out. Staying true to their music policy, the performing DJs, who were the stars of the day, gave the audience an exciting ride through their sounds as DJ sets went on from 2:45 PM on Saturday to 4:00 AM the following day.

For a niche community such as IMullar Sound System to evolve into bringing more than 2000 music lovers into one space is a phenomenal feat on its own. After this event, the Ghanaian alternative music community will see a boost in numbers. This safe space is open and welcoming to all new alternative music lovers and will most likely keep growing from here. After pulling off such a successful event, what is next for IMullar Sound System? Let’s wait and see.
