Five For Friday ft. [@milesfromkin_], [@hi_im_shiv], [@JulsOnIt] + more

Five For Friday is back again with 5 releases from the past week you should pay attention to.

Five For Friday is back again giving you 5 great tracks/projects for your Friday. Friday is essentially the most important day of the week musically, and typically a lot of music drops on Friday’s. With it being another very busy week of great music to make life a little easier this Friday we are giving you 5 of our top picks that have recently dropped to start off your weekend listening.

Miles from Kinshasa ft. kadiata – Don’t Be An Opp

Miles from Kinshasa is back with his first single since his Beloved EP last year and he enlists kadiata as his collaborator on this playful number. First things first “Don’t Be An Opp” is extremely smooth, the vocal performances and production work in tandem to create a mellow entrancing track that you can’t help but want to spin. What helps elevate the track even further is the tongue in cheek nature that comes through in the lyrics giving it an element of fun that you see play out in full across the excellent visuals that came alongside it.

shiv – The Love Interlude

shiv today drops her short but sweet The Love Interlude EP and despite its brevity, it has the quality to warrant several replays. It is a conceptual project with each song representing one of the four seasons starting in Summer and ending in Spring which plays out nicely with the project feeling cohesive but simultaneously varied enough for it to not be monotonous. As the name suggests the projects central theme is love and sees shiv reflect on the realities of what love is, in shiv’s words “The truth is, for love to be love, it has to involve a journey which is sometimes difficult and, very often, not even slightly perfect-adjacent.” and we see this play out across the project. It is heartfelt writing that is open paired with the production and vocal performances that make a common topic feel fresh.

Juls – Sounds of My World

For his long awaited debut album, Juls provides a plethora of vibes and enlists an all star cast across the projects 15 tracks. With the first three singles released from the project being “Love Me”, “Wicked” and “Chance” we already knew Juls was sitting on something special. Now that the project has arrived we can see just how special it is, if we look past the incredible featured artists who are stars in their own rights, what Juls does on production is incredible. There is a vibe for everyone on the project as it covers a range of sounds from the Black diaspora but they each have that Juls touch that has become a signature sound over the years. Whilst recognised by artists, this release should finally start to get Juls the recognition he’s been deserving from the public because after this his talent is really indisputable.

Milan Ring ft. Jean Deaux – Pick Me Up

Milan Ring has been firing strong recently and “Pick Me Up” continues this run as well as came alongside the announcement of her debut album titled I’m Feeling Hopeful. The Australian songstress has done the groundwork and worked alongside some of contemporary R&B’s biggest names like SZA, Sampa The Great and more. “Pick Me Up” ponders ideas of vanity, sexuality and confidence in a blurry club setting. The guest verse from Jean Deaux is a real show stealer with her sultry vocals perfectly complementing the production and her lyrical content feeling very fitting despite being in slight contrast to Milan‘s. It is a good offering to tease what’s in store for her upcoming album so we can only hope this continues when the album drops.

BenjiFlow ft. Oxlade – My Bella

Last but not least we have BenjiFlow‘s stellar “My Bella” featuring Nigeria’s Oxlade to close out the Five For Friday list this week. Benji broke out onto most people’s radars a few years ago with “Deep End” and has since then consistently been showcasing his talents whether on his own releases or across collaborative efforts. “My Bella” is a silky alté track that feels like the last light of summer with bouncy production and buttery vocals from both Benji and Oxlade. It gives a vibe that’s versatile, making it the perfect track for a whole host of occasions and a track that is sure to get some good rotation. It is the second single to drop from Benji‘s upcoming EP and personally, I can’t wait to see what else he has in store on that project.
