Five For Friday ft [@RealJyellowL], [@Geovarn] + more

Friday’s are packed full of releases, these are 5 you should pay particular attention to today.

Five for Friday makes its scheduled appearance. Friday is essentially the most important day of the week musically, and typically a lot of music drops on Friday’s. Friday is also the day that the official charts are announced letting us know who holds the coveted number one position. To make life a little easier this Friday we are giving you 5 of our top picks that have just dropped.

Francesca – Fantasy

Francesca, is already making major waves in the industry. Her first and most recent track ‘Wanting Me’ impressively garnered close to 200,000 streams on Spotify with no major push, being played consistently by almost every DJ on Radio 1and even landing her a major commercial TV partnership with Pretty Little ThingComing through with her second release, ‘Fantasy’ shows Francesca illustrating an infatuation for a toxic lover; underpinned by an infectious and soulful instrumental, showing clear influence from artists like Lauryn Hill, H.E.R and KAYTRANADA

JyellowL – Doesn’t Feel Like

Born to Jamaican and Nigerian parents and raised in Ireland, the Dublin-based rapper has drawn on all three origins to create a distinctly powerful sound that is radically individual. ‘Doesn’t Feel Like’ summarises his experience moving to Ireland as an African immigrant in just under 4 mins. JyellowL recalls “This song is about my experience as an African immigrant in the western world. I came to Ireland when I was in my early teens and it was the first time I was made conscious of my racial and cultural difference.”.

Fia Moon – XX

‘XX’, the second of a six-single mixtape Fia Moon has planned for 2020, is a song which attempts to take the challenge of getting over a breakup and the emotions that go with it and turn it back on itself. It’s a powerful, honest admission that says “yes, I’m still thinking about you” but flips that on its head by saying “I sure as hell know you’re thinking about me too!”. The Alt-Pop track has a dark atmospheric production with Fia delivering soaring vocals whilst blending the old and the new with the stylistic flair she’s known for.

Tesselated ft. Crayon – No Ansa

Tessellated builds on the mass of international hype surrounding him as he partners with Independent for the release of his latest single ‘No Ansa’ with emerging Afrobeats act Crayon. He continues his distinctive streak of smooth releases with a new sensual jam, which moves with R&B tendencies. Proving that when it comes to the art of making music for Tess, there are no boundaries

Geovarn – Still Mean

Geovarn makes his 2020 debut with the short but impactful ‘Still Mean’. Initially an Instagram freestyle that saw Geovarn rap over London producer Happi’s flipped Dr. Dre-sampling instrumental. ‘Still Mean’ harnesses an early-2000s R&B vibe, fit with playful punchlines and smooth, vibrant production. The visuals see Geovarn flex his vocal prowess amidst flames, dobermans and French bulldogs giving it a real cinematic feel.
