Afrobeats musical [@OlivaTMusical] announces groundbreaking UK tour

The first ever Afrobeats musical will tour the UK this October.

Following its sold-out West End debut at the Lyric Theatre in 2013, it’s back by popular demand.  It will be playing shows in London (Venue TBC), the Belgrade Theatre in Coventry, and Manchester’s Opera House.

Oliva Tweest: The Afro Musicial is a captivating show following the ambitions of London hustler and club-promoter Tobi. He has no problem winning female attention, but yearns to shake off his shady reputation and move up in the world.

Driven by his need to succeed, he plans the ultimate concert to attract his idol D,banj. Naming it after the musician’s global hit ‘Oliver Twist’. Though when he finds out that the landlord of his chosen venue intends to convert the building into a church, Tobi is forced to disguise his true intentions.

The title ‘Oliva Tweest’ is a fun play on words on the D’Banj hit ‘Oliva Twist’. It’s the name of the concert the lead character is trying to organise, to attract the attention of his idol D’Banj.

PureYinkz (Yinka Ayinde), Sky Academny Arts Scholarships recipient created the show. Speaking on his creation he says: “It’s a dream come true. We have been given so much support and encouragement to get to this point. It will be the first time showcasing the fully developed show and we’ll be working with renowned partners. I am both excited and nervous about what happens next.

“The theatre industry has been looking for this mythical ‘new audience’ but we are going to show them the people are out there. I’ve developed this show to bring two worlds together – introducing a traditional theatre audience to the Afrobeats culture, and filling up theatres with young, energetic Afrobeats fans to breathe new life into these venues”

Expect to see new songs created especially for the musical, as well as renditions of the biggest Afrobeats hits. Including songs from D’banj, Wizkid, Maleek Berry, Afro B and Tiwa Savage.

Oliva Tweest: The AfroMusical takes place in October 2018. Advanced tickets are available at http://olivatweestmusical.com
