Piano People Are Taking Over Drumsheds for The Biggest Amapiano Show In The World

On Sunday November 19th 2023 Piano People prepares to transform Drumsheds into an Amapiano haven. With Major League DJz set to headline, the festival promises an unforgettable night of good vibes, infectious energy and non stop Pianooo Pianooo!

Amapiano, a genre originating from the vibrant streets of South Africa, has swiftly captured the hearts of music lovers globally. “It feels so amazing” says Amapiano DJ Nicky Summers on being part of such a monumental event. “The sound is now growing even more – people ask for it now, it’s known so much more – before it was even hard to integrate into a club night so it feels amazing.’

Rooted in South Africa’s diverse music culture, Amapiano gained traction within local communities before expanding its reach. “Women bring that extra spark,” Summers notes. “Their influence has been pivotal in spreading Amapiano globally.” Piano People DJ Charisse C also notes how timing has influenced the genre’s pivotal growth “We were fresh out of lock down; people were hungry and excited to be outside and listen to music we had never heard on a dance floor; so many parties were born. It’s dance music that’s inherently African but you can be non African and still find your space in Amapiano regardless.” And it’s spaces like this that Piano People are actively cultivating throughout the world.

Piano people’s eclectic line-up, features an array of artists: both pioneers and artists on the rise. From headliners Major League DJz and Musa Keys to special guests Oskido and DJ Mphorisa, DBN Gogo, Kelvin Momo, Odumodublvck and more, the day promises an immersive night of all the intricacies and sub genres that Amapiano has to offer, giving audiences a chance to diversify their understanding of the genre. Nicky Summers hopes this is something that will become regular for the future of Amapiano globally “I hope it can be more readable for people who don’t understand or don’t want to understand – there are so many sub genres such as private school, Amapiano, Sgija etc. It’s so important that you don’t just look at it as a whole thing there’s so much more.”

As for what exactly you’ll hear on the night – here are Nicky Summer’s and DJ Charisse C’s must play track for their set …. you might want to brush up on these before you pull up!
