Asher Glean [@asherglean] is GUAP GALA’s Content Creator of the Year supported by Instagram [@Instagram]

Content Creator of the Year is a highly sought after and competitive award category at the GUAP Gala. This year, creator and teacher, Asher Glean took home the award. He is best known for creating short form comedy skits with an overall following of over 2M across platforms.

Upon winning the award, Glean tells Unbothered “When I started this journey last year I never had in mind winning an award. But when I found out that it was possible and there was a platform for it, it gave me a lot of motivation. And now it’s a reality I have really won it.”

For Glean, winning the award was more than just a personal accomplishment. It was his way to give back to his community. “Growing up it was hard to find Black British role models. Every Black male person I saw on TV was either a footballer or a rapper and most of the time they weren’t Black British so it was hard for me to picture myself in higher positions. However, GUAP has created this platform for us and allowed Black British creatives to be celebrated and I can only imagine what that’s doing for the upcoming generation” he tells Refinery29.
