April Payday Drops: New Releases to Buy Yourself This Month

Hallo again payday! In this month’s Payday Drop we are wishfully casting our eyes at Spring/Summer clothing, even though the bomber jackets and waterproofs are unfortunately very much still in use. Curse you, British weather.

1. Pink Sakura Racer Jacket, Years of Tears, £475

Up first we have Years of Tears. We were lucky enough to interview brand owner Syd this month, who told us that although it sounds sad, the brand name is actually meant to symbolise the end of pain and the beginning of tears of joy. The brand, coveted by the likes of Skepta, Lil Yachty and Central Cee, released several new items this month. We are particularly loving the pink Sakura racer, pictured below alongside the grey and black racers. With the price point and the cozzie livs, this one might take a couple of paydays, but it is unique, highly exclusive and real leather and so our guess is it will last you forever.

2. Cotton Jeans, Axel Arigato for Mulberry, £235

British luxury meets contemporary cool in this collaboration between British brand Mulberry, best known for their luxury leather bags, and Swedish based footwear brand Axel Arigato. The collection has it all – bags, accessories, jackets, etc, but these jeans, with their embroidered script and frayed detail at the knee, stole the show for us. Available in both men and women’s sizes, these are perfect for the upcoming Spring/Summer months.

3. New Balance 1960Rs, £140

Nothing says “Summer is coming” like a pair of fresh trainers. New Balance have released their latest iteration of the iconic 1906R, with two colourways exclusive to JD Sports – Metallic Black and Concrete Grey.

Named after the year the brand was brought to life, the 1906R took centre stage in 2022 with its retro cues and signature running shape. These newest editions have durability, comfort and clean design lines down to a tee, perfect for the increasingly popular athleisure style that’s come with hybrid working life.

4. Coast Necklace, Spencer Badu x Vitaly, £103

As we start to wear less clothing, accessories are key to help add depth and flavour to outfits. The Coast chain, designed by Spencer Badu in collaboration with Vitaly, explores Badu‘s Ghanaian heritage and the idea of migration. Composed of custom geometric steel beads, genuine African turquoise stones and real cowrie shells, the Coast evokes memories from the beaches of Africa — a place of warmth and friendship, represented by a removable Ghanaian adinkra symbol that translates to “Unity.” Finished with a co-branded clasp and adjustable sizing chain.

5. SHU B’AD Capsule Collection, Marwan Kaabour x Everpress, £27

Warmer weather = t shirt szn! This collection of t-shirts, although curated by Marwan Kaabour, is the result of a collaboration among five Arab designers and artists: Walid Bouchouchi (Algeria), Farah Fayyad (Lebanon), Haitham Haddad (Palestine), Ahmad Hammoud (Egypt), and Marwan Kaabour himself (Lebanon). Having all grown up in the SWANA region, they now find themselves scattered around the world. Some moved away to study or work, while others had to move due to challenging situations in their home countries. Arabic for “So Distant”, Shu B’ad is the title of a poem by Muhammad Alabdallah that addresses distance and longing. It was popularised in the midst of the Lebanese Civil War by musician Ahmad Kaabour. Wanting to celebrate their shared cultural heritage, each designer took a verse from the poem and visualised it in their signature style, making the collection a poem and a song.

6. Cross Chain Denim Indigo Jeans, Supplier, £227

Denim is a big thing at the moment, and we are particularly loving denim with an edge – just like these jeans from Japanese streetwear brand Supplier, with the cross chain stitch to set them apart.

7. Burnt Boy Trousers, CULTNAKED, £267

Ukranian womenswear label CULTNAKED has updated their best-selling collection of vegan leather pieces, this time with an androgynous mid-rise pant. Pair with the complimentary Kvitka Bandeau, a distressed corset in the same material, to make an easy switch from day to night time wear.

8. Reversible Bomber Jacket, Patta x Andy Wahloo, £167

Streetwear brand Patta is no stranger to collabs. Since opening in 2004, the brand has collaborated with Converse, Nike, and Tommy HiIlfiger – and that’s just to name a few. This month they released a collection in collaboration with Andy Wahloo, Morocco based streetwear brand founded by visual artist Hassan Hajjaj. Andy Wahloo, which means “I have nothing” in Moroccan dialect, is a brand that showcases Morocco’s rich culture and history. The collaboration makes a lot of sense as Patta is based in Amsterdam, where there is a prominent Moroccan community. The collection features a few pieces, including a tea(!) made in Morocco using resources and ingredients from around the world. Our favourite piece is this reversible bomber jacket, perfect for the (slightly) warmer but still (very) rainy weather we are having in London.
