The Best British Streetwear Brands Of 2022
2022 was an undeniably great year for British Streetwear Brands, with their innovative marketing strategies, conversation-starting collaborations, and never before seen silhouettes.
It’s a new year and we are reflecting on the streetwear brands that made the biggest impact from the UK and beyond last year. Are we missing any? Tweet us @guapmag and let us know.
There is no way I could write this article without including Corteiz, of course! We have all definitely seen Clint’s notorious Alcatraz prison logo printed pieces or heard about his insane marketing strategies such as the Bolo Exchange, which caused a lot of controversy on social media. Corteiz has truly created a community and following beyond its clothing. Recognised by the late Virgil Abloh and most recently worn by Drake, founder Clint is definitely making a name for himself in the UK streetwear industry, and the fashion industry at large. He truly is living up to his slogan RTW, a true embodiment of ruling the world.
Jehucal represents the worlds of streetwear and luxury coming together, making quality pieces more accessible. Founder Emay started the brand in 2016, while studying Accounting & Finance and Economics at the University of Kent. His main aim was to make timeless, classic, high quality but affordably priced pieces that can last ‘Till Forever’ as the brand’s slogan suggests. In November last year, the brand collaborated with Scottish whiskey brand Chivas Regal to create a 10 piece capsule including a varsity jacket and custom Jehucal x Chivas Regal bottle. Over the past year or so the brand has expanded its range to include outerwear, womenswear, homeware and accessories including the new Triple Black Mirrors bag, (see their super cool ad for it here).
Founders of Soho Yacht Club – Che Sharriff, Ellis Gilbert and Harry Clements are bringing a new and refreshing perspective to the UK streetwear scene. The brand is most notably recognised for their corduroy, racing-inspired hats and cosy tracksuits. In February 2022 the brand collaborated with another emerging label A1 Denim to release a denim jacket and trouser set. The brand also collaborated with Corteiz to create a cap and has teamed up with Chelsea FC to create a kit for the 2022/2023 season.
Being sported by artists such as Jack Harlow and Swish God, the Manchester-based brand is creating waves not just across the UK, but worldwide. Despite this, Drama Call has not forgotten their roots. The brand is all about supporting the local music community, they already have released two “Trackeh” collaborations with Mancunian rapper, Aitch. Their tracksuits are branded with their iconic ‘Drama’ typography, and founder Charlie Bows claims his cosy jogger and hoodie set weighing one kilo is ‘the heaviest in the game’, perfect for this winter weather.
Also Manchester-based, Clint’s is a footwear brand, that was founded by Junior Clint in 2020. The self-taught designer started with clothing but moved to footwear due to his discontent at the, in his opinion, saturated streetwear market. Clint was inspired by the practicality and functionality of hiking shoes but was adamant to not compromise on style. Clint footwear is very reminiscent of retro 90s silhouettes with classic chunky soles and bright accent colours. Despite the brand’s focus on footwear, his recent drop featured a branded varsity puffer, shell tracksuit, denim and knitwear pieces.
The brand originally started as a photography page on Instagram, with founder Gam giving a platform to his friends that were doing cool things. However, a few years ago GCLO (standing for Global Culture & Lifestyle Observation) moved from a platform for creatives to a clothing brand creating wardrobe essentials and lifestyle pieces. GCLO Studios is still more than just the clothes though, founder Gam really aims to create a community of like-minded individuals through ‘pop-ups, parties and shared experiences’.
Similar to GCLO Studios, Places + Faces also started as a photography blog founded by college friends Imran Ciesay and Solomon Boyede. The Places + Faces of today is much more than that, having amassed worldwide recognition. Places + Faces is not only a collection of images but also merchandise, events and social media accounts that represent the culture. Named after the way they caption each photo Place (Location) and Face (Person), the boys have most recently captured the likes of Sainte, Skepta, Westside Gunn, ASAP Rocky & Rihanna.
