Known Source: the online platform changing the resale industry

Known Source, a new online marketplace founded by friends Henry McNeill-Njoku and Theo El-Kattan, is changing the way we shop second-hand. In recent years the growth of the resale industry and platforms such as Depop and ASOS Marketplace has led to sellers forgoing quality, instead just offering as many products as possible. Henry and Theo founded Known Source earlier this year to combat this, prioritising quality, authenticity and promoting small businesses.

Henry and Theo are both very well versed in the reseller market, as both buyers and sellers. After becoming a top seller on both Depop and ASOS marketplace, Henry now runs his own second hand shop HMS Vintage. He spoke to us at the Known Source launch party last month, explaining his issue with other marketplaces: “as a Seller, getting exposure for my items is impossible. There are sometimes over 15 million active listings.” Theo agrees, adding that “the e-commerce experience is missing that human touch”.

Known Source offers a more meaningful, considered way to invest in fashion. Before sellers are allowed to join the platform, they have to meet the criteria of a 90 point checklist. The platform also acts as an agency for the dealers they have on board, educating them, providing marketing support and tips on how they can grow their brand.

Known Source is determined to make second hand shopping more accessible and sustainable. A clear example of this is their unique feature which promotes circular fashion – RENEW. RENEW allows users to resell any item they have bought on Known Source at any point in the future.
