Streetwear Takes Centre Stage At HOMECOMING

Festival season is upon us, and for their sixth edition, the event “taking the world to Africa and Africa to the world” went hard.

HOMECOMING, founded by music maven Grace Ladoja, saw performances from Central Cee, Buju, Asake and more. For all the fashion lovers, they collaborated with luxury Lagos concept store ALARA on a streetwear pop-up. Lagos is definitely having its moment right now- the eyes of the diaspora are on the emerging creative scene, and they’re not disappointing.

Showcasing brands like Patta and Pith Africa, the pop-up was true to its tagline and was a timely reminder of how fast African fashion and music are rising to the top – not that we needed it.

Jehucal’s Third Utility Collection 

Okay, this dropped last week, but we had to mention it because this latest collection embodies everything owner Emay defines Jehucal as: “The lovechild of streetwear and luxury”.

Inspired by American workwear throughout history and branded with the classic ‘Jehucal’ logo, the utility set is the ideal functional piece, with features like the YKK zipper and extra pockets.

Tayce x Chet Lo x IoDF

For all the Drag Race lovers and digital fashion lovers, this collaboration is for you.

Fashion East’s Chet Lo is merging his signature spiky knits with digital garments in his first collaboration with Drag Race star Tayce and the Institute of Digital Fashion. The collaboration is part of Absolut’s ‘Born to Mix’ programme that will see a series of talent work together on creative projects that challenge the status quo.

This partnership will produce “Second Skin Couture”, a bespoke design hand-knitted by Chet Lo that will be turned into a digital filter by emerging ateliers from the IoDF, making it available for all to try on.

Even though Chet Lo has made the news recently for being ripped off by H&M, he responded by saying, “Every piece is hand-knitted with love and care”, and we’re confident this collaboration will be no different.

Alexander Wang Returns To The Runway

Last year the designer became another addition to a long list of fashion names accused of sexual misconduct by multiple people. Taking to Instagram to address the claims, he wrote: “I support their right to come forward… while we disagree on some of the details, I will set a better example. Life is about learning and growth, and now that I know better, I will do better.

After a relatively quiet hiatus, he’s returned to the runway with a show that celebrates Asian-American culture, a culture Wang himself has grown up in. Taking place in LA’s Chinatown, the show’s fashion wasn’t a huge talking point, with fans, instead, focusing on and calling out Wang for hosting such a lavish show in one of the most impoverished parts of LA. When they weren’t berating Wang, fans focused their attention on the models involved, like Adriana Lima, for ignoring the multiple accusations against the designer and supporting him in his comeback.

It’s safe to say the next few seasons are going to be rough for the designer.

The Mallow Crossovers Drop In May

If you’re searching for a new pair of shoes for summer, look no further. Footwear brand TOMS is gearing up to launch the latest style in their Mallow collection. Featuring a pillowy sole and cover, the shoes are true to their name, putting comfort first.

Launching May 10th, the next edition sees the shoe transformed into a platform, water-friendly sandal ideal for summer weather. Available in three colourways – beige on beige, raspberry, and black on black – the sandals are part of TOMS’ earth-wise collection, made from recycled jersey and post-consumer plastic bottles.
