Five For Friday ft. [@archives_nia], [@RealJyellowL], [@meronaddismusic] + more

Five For Friday is back again with 5 releases from the past week you should pay attention to.

Five For Friday is back again giving you 5 great tracks/projects for your Friday. Friday is essentially the most important day of the week musically, and typically a lot of music drops on Friday’s. With it being another very busy week of great music to make life a little easier this Friday we are giving you 5 of our top picks that have recently dropped to start off your weekend listening.

Nia Archives – 18 & Over

Nia Archives jumps into that nostalgia inducing sound that’s making waves at the moment with a Jungle twist on the Reggae classic “Young Lover” by Cocoa Tea. More than just giving that track a new spin, she also layers over her immediately identifiable vocals which only adds to the melting pot that makes the track so special. On top of this to coincide with its nostalgic feel the visuals equally channel the Jungle era as well as classic Jamaican & Yardie films like Babylon alongside styling that encapsulates that time. This is one for the weekend, and especially for those who want a hit of nostalgia. Look out for more from the 21 year old as alongside the release of “18 & Over” Nia has also announced her forthcoming EP Forbidden Feelingz which is coming early next year.

INFAMOUSIZAK – FRACTURE

This is a project that I’ve personally had an inkling would crop up for a while just based on the artwork to the singles, “USED TO IT”, “RUN ME DOWN” and “GOOD ONES”, I just wasn’t sure when it was coming. Now released, FRACTURE delivers a nice care package of INFAMOUSIZAK at his best with him delivering a tightly focussed and extremely sonically pleasing EP. Granted there’s only one new song which is “PERSONAL USE” but it’s a welcome addition to the catalogue and slots nicely in place on the project. Despite only including one new song, having the songs sequenced and together only enhances each track with them neatly flowing into one another without breaking immersion despite each track sounding vastly different. It is a very strong addition to the quickly growing INFAMOUSIZAK catalogue.

JyellowL Ft. Antigoni – Appetiser

JyellowL is proving himself to be a real innovative force coming out of Dublin. Having been featured on the FIFA 20 soundtrack as well as the Normal People TV series, he has quite the list of achievements under his belt already and it feels like he’s only getting started with it. For “Appetiser” he links up with North London’s Antigoni and the pair come together incredibly well creating an emotive and distinct sound that is uniquely their own. It’s a combo that I doubt many had pegged to happen but one I’m sure people will be hoping to hear more of after this one.

Meron Addis – Feel But Don’t Touch

This Friday Meron Addis has graced us with a sublimely short but sweet EP, Feel But Don’t Touch. Meron Addis is London born and raised but has stayed firmly grounded within her Ethiopian heritage which she brings into her music along with her other musical and life influences. Her hard work has seen her recognised across the board with nods from several Spotify playlists, BBC Radio 1, as well as support from PRS For Music which saw Meron awarded the PPL Momentum Music Grant to further help her on her musical journey. On Feel But Don’t Touch she showcases why she’s got such support and that her sound is still growing and evolving – with it sounding this good now you can only imagine how great it could be as time goes on. Speaking on the project Meron explains:

“My music is a feeling and it’s my way of connecting, whilst remaining in my own little bubble. This project also shares the power of being touched in every way but physically. It’s everything from sensual, to guarded, to vulnerable, to a sense of longing and belonging.”

Ling Hussle – Pressure

Ling Hussle is back with another one in “Pressure” and keeping up what has felt like a steady and consistent stream of tracks throughout the year. This is on top of her stellar I Hope You Like This project which only dropped a couple of months ago. “Pressure” is a slight departure from the tracks on that project with it slowing things down a little and feeling a lot more serious in its tone and moving away from the more romantic subject matter. This switch up isn’t all that surprising though, we know that Ling can do both and do them extremely well and the timing of it happening as the cold of winter is starting to set in feels fitting. The track has that motivational feel to it that makes you want to get up and get to work, which is an ethos the Ling has shown by example throughout the years. This is one for your playlists for the gym, work and anywhere you need that extra push.
