Five For Friday ft. [@heisrema], [@Migos], [@officialAvelino] + more

Five For Friday is back again with 5 releases from the past week you should pay attention to.

Five For Friday is back again giving you 5 great tracks/projects for your Friday. Friday is essentially the most important day of the week musically, and typically a lot of music drops on Friday’s. Friday is the day that the official charts are announced, which lets us know who holds the coveted number one position. We’ve had another very busy week of great music so to make life a little easier this Friday we are giving you 5 of our top picks that have recently dropped to start off your weekend listening.

Rema – Soundgasm

Rema kicks off his summer releases with the impressive ‘Soundgasm’ which also serves as a teaser of what’s to come from his upcoming album. One thing you can guarantee with Rema is that he’s going to experiment. But what you can almost always also guarantee alongside that is that the risks will pay off to create a sound that is simply like no other. On ‘Soundgasm’ we see/hear Rema take his vocals in a new direction and simultaneously shatters any preconceptions about the limits of his vocal range. He is somebody that can push on to do great things and possibly even be the catalyst for a shift in the Afro sound space. This album is going to be important.

Kwengface & Backroad Gee – Woosh

This is a collab I hadn’t thought of despite being big fans of the two individually. Unsurprisingly the two pair extremely well together with both having extremely high energy delivery as well as a delivery that grips your attention. Production wise it feels like one that was a bit more leaning towards Backroad‘s typical sound more than Kwengface‘s, despite this both deliver some standout moments across the track. Both artists seem to be at home over the production and the only thing that could have really taken the release up an extra notch would have been an extra level of polish to the visuals. It’s a strong track and one not to be missed this Friday.

Migos – Culture III

Migos are finally back to the form that saw them rise to being the powerhouse group in Rap. After a disappointing follow up to the first Culture album Migos took a much needed break and clearly went back to the drawing board with what they were putting out. Instead of a complete overhaul or even jumping on trends, Migos opted to trust in their original sound. Culture III is laced with prime Migos energy, flows and wordplay – it is the album we wanted Culture II to be. From start to finish there are countless bangers and tracks we will no doubt be hearing in the clubs, and that’s exactly the way it should be when it comes to Migos.

A2 – Torondon (Refix)

Not long after having dropped the long awaited Just So You Know, A2 has now followed up with another little gift. This gift comes in the form of a refix of ‘Torondon’ from the aformentioned project. If I compare the two tracks as standalones, this refix is the better track. It does more to draw you in and feels a lot punchier, no surprise as this refix sits comfortably in the world of Drill production wise whereas the original is something closer to Trap which is a little slower and less in your face. It is a refix well worth the listen and a solid addition to the evergrowing A2 catalogue.

Avelino Ft. SL – Waze

Avelino is continuing to ramp up the pace with his releases in 2021. This time he links up with Drill’s most elusive star SL for ‘Waze’, it sounds like a random combination but over the ominous production the two do well to compliment each other. Avelino of course shows off his dextrous ability to put words together but does it in a way that feels subtle. SL compliments this with his trademark slightly deadpan delivery alongside some nice wordplay in places. Just the variety of voices does a lot for the track and keeps it feeling fresh throughout the track’s runtime.
