Five For Friday ft [@PotterPayper], [@lifeofuknwn], [@ashnikko] + more
Friday’s are packed full of releases, these are 5 you should pay particular attention to today.
Five for Friday is back again. Friday is essentially the most important day of the week musically. Friday is also the day that the official charts are announced letting us know who holds the coveted number one position. To make life a little easier this Friday we are giving you 5 of our top picks that have just dropped.
Houston X – Insider EP
Houston X has already had a pretty big year ahead of his release of the Insider EP, having gotten over 100k streams across the two tracks he released this year. Those tracks, ‘CT (Side A)’ and ‘Scarlett Red’, set the tone for Insider and the rest of the project live up to that level of quality. Often referred to as London’s answer to Travis Scott, Houston X comes through with as much of an ethereal and dreamy vibe as it does the dark and menacing aspects.
UKNWN – 22 EP
Today alongside the release of his debut EP on Relentless Records, UKNWN gives us a visualiser for latest single ‘To The Moon’ taken from the 22 EP. UKNWN chose the title 22 for this debut EP, not only because he’s twenty-two years old, but also because ‘22’ is considered the greatest of all numbers as it symbolizes building a firm foundation for future plans and can help turn big dreams into realities. On the EP UKNWN brings his patented unique approach to the wavy Trap style that has become increasingly popular in the UK. You can stream the full project here.
Jazz Mino – Like A Drunk Girl
After a whole lot of anxiety, mac n’ cheese, and bad friends, Jazz Mino has risen up, releasing a series of witty, tongue in cheek singles, all about cutting toxic people out. Her extremely relatable, empowering latest single, ‘Like A Drunk Girl’ is the second single of the series, and takes a no shit attitude towards people putting her down, and is cloaked within an uplifting dreamy-chill beat.
Ashnikko ft. Grimes – Cry
Ashnikko shares the action packed animated video for new track ‘Cry’ featuring the pop enigma, Grimes. ‘Cry’ traces the break up with a friend after the ultimate betrayal and as Grimes and Ashnikko sing “this could get gruesome” we hear anger reposition to vindication. Following on from the angst charged Hi, It’s Me EP the listener gets a glimpse into Ashnikko’s more sensitive side, but still not straying from the energy she’s known for.
Potter Payper – 2020 Vision
Potter Payper fresh home has got straight to work, announcing his release with a freestyle yesterday and today dropping 4 track EP 2020 Vision. This is his first release since 2018 and Potter has made a comeback like he never left. An unsung hero of the UK rap scene, his musical journey began in 2013 with the game-changing Training Day a mixtape that helped UK rap gain notoriety across the globe. His freestyles have since accumulated over 20 million views and he has received support from the likes of Giggs, Stormzy, Charlie Sloth and many more. One of UK rap’s most revered artists, 2020 Vision marks the start of a new chapter in the life and career of Potter Payper.
