Women Connect UK Announce Their “We See You” Campaign to Advocate for Remarkable Women in the Creative Industries
Female-led collective Women Connect UK have launched their “We See You” campaign, in order to shine a light on women doing remarkable things and making positive changes in their chosen industries.
Women Connect’s aim is to create a safer and all-inclusive space for women and non-binary people in the creative industries. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic and being in quarantine, the Women Connect team believes that this is the time especially to promote pioneers under the creative umbrella.
The ‘We See You’ campaign aims to connect women, increase their visibility, and build more opportunities within the creative sector. The initiative has started with trailblazing women in the tech industry.
Women Connect did a study and found that only 16.8% of people working in the tech sector are women. This shows there’s a massive underrepresentation of women in the tech industry as a whole and that it’s a heavily male-dominated industry.
Their debut ‘We See You’ includes 3 pioneers with backgrounds in HR, Software Engineering and Mechanism.
In one of their interviews, they spoke to Velisa, who is a Human Resources professional, founder of blackandHR and over 7 years of HR experience. Velisa has a passion to promote diversity in the workplace and promote the tech industry through her work. “The Tech industry is like working towards a mission of what the world should be like and that gives me energy because it allows me the freedom to voice what the world can look like for people like me. I love the care that is shown with regards to employees you don’t just feel like a number you feel like whatever you contribute will result in greater change which is fab!”
They will have more posts in the next coming weeks, exploring other extraordinary women in other creative industry careers.
