Why [@Taliwhoah] Is Finally In Her Prime

R&B continues to fight for its space in the UK musical landscape. This year alone, we’ve seen quirky collaborations from Mahalia and Ella Mai, as well as Col3trane and Mira May and critically acclaimed releases from the likes of Collard. Taliwhoah adds to this canvas and expansion with ease. Featuring in the visuals for Shae Universe‘s “Misunderstood,” as well as unveiling her own SOLAR release in April, Taliwhoah whetted audiences appetites for more.

Last week saw the bi-coastal singers return via a fully-fledged debut offering titled Another Dimension which is instantly enjoyable. Choosing to predominately remain in her conventional R&B pocket throughout, where Taliwhoah really shines, is when she lets loose and experiments in sound.

“Soul Food,” a previously released single featuring Arin Ray, sees the Rostrum Records signee tap into a lightly tinged-funk that adds flair to the album-cut. Taliwhoah toys with a lighter vocal-offering. As a whole, “Soul Food” lays bare the vocalist’s insecurities and is one of the more vulnerable songs across the album.

Elsewhere, Taliwhoah manages to successfully meld afrobeats and R&B on Another Dimension‘s final offering “Sweet Sweet”. Produced by Grammy-nominated act SAK PASE, and also featuring M.I Abaga, the song is easily a standout. Standing as Taliwhoah’s current single, she stands tall as confident and in her element on the tropical-cut. With the right push, this single should easily crack the Capital Xtra and BBC 1xtra playlists.

Taliwhoah is finally blossoming into an artist with the ability to lead the UK R&B universe. The passion, wide-ranging sonic-productions, and varied vocal-styling across the project instantly mark it as a top-tier 2019 release.
