‘Like It Or Lump It’ [@HakBaker] is one to watch for 2018
“This week, East London singer-songwriter, Hak Baker released the new video for his new single “Like It Or Lump It” (L.I.O.L.I.)
Following successful debut releases “7am” and “Conundrum“, L.I.O.L.I adds to his lyrical narrative of the paradoxical pursuit of carefree living – and the sacrifices made to facilitate said freedom.
His melodic and raw sound is a weekend anthem loaded with pathos – which encapsulates much of Hak as an artist. He’s a modern day bard-meets-2017 rockstar whose music soothes yet uproots.
Speaking candidly about the track, Hak explained: “There’s too many sheep, and not enough wolves. Live for the weekend and die for your cause.”
Genre-defying, his sound has been honed by his unique musical journey through the lens of teenage mischief. At 14, he was a member of Grime collective Bomb Squad, which followed being a member of a youth choir (which Hak claims he was tricked into joining after winning a school singing competition). His love of rock and indie merged with grime and garage, punctuates and reflects his life and music – the chaos and melodic reflection.
Championed by the likes of Skepta, Annie Mac, Matt Wilkinson, Huw Stephens, Zane Lowe and many more – there’s a lot more than meets the eye than a guy with a guitar; the simplicity of Hak Baker is quickly defied by his infinite lyrical-truths played out his tapestry-like sound. Hak Baker can’t be put into a box and neither should you want to.
Hak Baker’s debut EP “Misfits” will be released on November 15th, followed by a regional tour in early 2018.
