Shahlaa Discovers [@shahlaatahira] X GUAP Issue 6
You didn’t know about Mr Williams
My first interactions with Mr Williams were over email in April this year, when he sent me ‘Pressure’ produced by Mantra, his latest single. Now, as much as I could hear Mr Williams musical potential he had sent me that single just a bit too late. However after being made aware of his musical journey, I knew it was only a matter of time until I would be featuring him on GUAP. With Mr Williams being born in the U.K and raised in the U.S.A his journey is full of unique stories that he manages to capture in his music. Mr Williams also has a massive announcement coming out on June 18th 2017, to do with a very well known mobile phone network. So watch this space and don’t be late have a read and stay up to date with his musical journey…
Describe your sound in 3 Words.
I would describe my sound as diverse, feeling and influenced.
Diverse because I do all kinds of styles, genres, flows plus I’m always trying to push myself to be different from the rest because I’m not afraid to try out different things.
Feeling as in no matter what kind of record I make I make sure the listener feels something from it, for example with ‘Pressure’ I made that record so that when you hear the hook or flow pattern it makes you want to dance. Plus the sound of it no matter where you are you will feel like you’re on a summer vacation!
Influenced because my voice has an interesting accent. I was raised up in both Los Angeles and London plus having a Jamaican/Nigerian background so certain words sound different. I feel like it’s a ‘unique power‘ I have so I don’t sound like no one else!
Why is music so important to you?
It’s important to me because it’s the reason why I’m alive. I feel like my purpose in life is to create good music, I enjoy making records for my audiences because my music can relate to all types of emotions. It shows me how powerful a song can be in someone’s life; also to me it’s a formula to other things I want to do in life. I want to change the world but that’s a whole different subject.
When your think about your biggest dreams, where does your mind take you?
My mind takes me to a beautiful wife and big family plus knowing they will never struggle because of the work I’ve put in for them and doors I’ve open for them through my music career.
Hindsights a bitch, what do you wish you could of learnt earlier?
To believe in myself more and not rely on anyone. It’s crazy because the people I thought would be happy for me right now or who’d I believed would be here with me right now during the release of my single has showed me their true colours. It hurts because I just really do want to help people and share success with those friendships I value but I’ve learnt that some people are leafs and some are roots.
I like you man, where do I go to check out more?
Gracious, That way, UDIG! To check out more I’m on twitter @mrwi1liams and Instagram/Soundcloud @mrwi1liams and lastly check out my new single ‘Pressure’ which is available on all music platforms. It’s just me doing everything from managing, recording, mixing, social media etc so I seriously appreciate all the support because I’m seeing everything coming together and there’s no-one being missed during this journey this is just the beginning.
Spotlight Track:
We all have moments of self doubt and with summer being a great time to reflect on the year so far, Drey Cheekz latest single ‘I Bring Me’ is a reminder that sometimes we all need to look around at our circles and assess who is adding positivity into our lives, plus it highlights how important self worth and value are.

Drey Cheekz is one talented and hot female artist emerging from East London and her first single of 2017 ‘I Bring Me’ is out today! (12/06/17) ‘I Bring Me’ is from her forthcoming EP ‘Crossover’ available later this summer.
Produced by XVR BLCK ‘I Bring Me’ shows Drey’s raw and authentic RnB sound. With previous collaborations alongside Big Tobz, Blittz Gullyish and SNE I can’t wait to hear the fire she has brought to her ‘Crossover’ EP.
Drey Cheekz said “I wrote ‘I Bring Me’ because I felt like I needed to express myself…make a song that creates a statement about embracing what I have to offer to the table….I feel like nowadays my generation focus so much on material things, looking good for social media, doing things to please other people. It’s as if people have forgotten how to appreciate themselves, especially the females…It’s taken me a long time to appreciate myself and now that I’m in that positive space, I had to share that feeling with others….I hope that other girls… and guys too, can do the same. Don’t let people bring you down…I was also inspired by the soundtrack on TV series ‘Star’ which the concept is a bit different, but it definitely got me more excited to write my track.
Drey Cheekz is a dedicated artist and constantly perfects her craft, always working on something new. Her tone has been described as “soulful, sultry and gritty”.
She is breaking barriers in the UK RnB scene and has a great message to share.
