London MC Kaniva [@Kanivaoh] tells his empowering story in dope new visuals.
“Imma be next up…wait”
South London MC Kaniva is back with fresh visuals for this year, with a follow-up on his debut Homeless EP. The video for his new song ‘Last Night Being Homeless‘ dropped last week, and I have to say the visuals are dope.
Whilst many other artists in the same genre show us what they do have (bottles of Luc Belaire and Balenciagas), Kaniva shows us what he didn’t have; a home. And with the number of young people sleeping rough in the UK increasing every year, it’s definitely a story that needs to be told.
Sitting on a park bench with no brand clothes and no trim, Kaniva uses his witty bars and cold flow, to tell us how he found himself homeless only last year. The rapper/songwriter also addresses the mental health issues impacting young people today, with the bar, “‘cos nobody calls when you’re mad low”, really standing out in a time where social media is more important than a harsh reality.
But overall it’s the positive message that really makes the video what it is. Kaniva tells us about one of his struggles, but he also tells us about how he overcame it and has since moved forward with his life. Having opened for the likes of Snoop Dogg and French Montana, and with new music on the way this summer, this a young artist that we can definitely expect a lot from in the future.
